5 Reasons To Try Dry January

It’s that time of year again. You’ve eaten your body weight in mince pies and turkey, all of the Christmas alcohol you bought has been drunk, and everyone’s starting to talk about resolutions.

One of the most common resolutions to start the year off with is Dry January. That means no alcohol for the entire month. This may be a challenge for a lot of us, but it might be incredibly beneficial as well, and will get your year off to a brilliant start if you manage to achieve it.

Here are our 5 reasons to try dry January.

1. You’ll sleep better

Alcohol can affect your sleep, stopping you from falling into a deep sleep and making you wake up throughout the night and often early in the morning. So, if you embark on dry January, expect to be counting far fewer sheep and catching way more quality Z’s.

2. You’ll have more energy

Of course, with more sleep, you’ll have more energy. That sluggish feeling you have the morning after a night of wine, beers and whatever else, can seriously get in the way of important daily tasks, like going to the gym. And with so many of us wanting to get into a good routine as a part of the new year, we’ll need all the energy we can get.

3. You’ll save money

You probably already know how expensive alcohol is. If you’re a big drinker, you could be saving a huge amount of money by staying sober for a month. Think of all the things you could spend that extra money on...or maybe you can just make up for it when you celebrate your achievement on February 1st!

4. You could lose weight

Alcohol tends to have a lot of calories in it. And a heavy night of drinking each week could set you back on your fitness journey quite significantly.

And we probably don’t have to remind you of this bit, but once you’ve had a few, you tend to get pretty hungry, eating much more than you usually would. We’re all for a good pizza every now and then, but if you’re looking to lose weight, cutting out alcohol and that midnight snack could be a good place to start.

5. It’ll start your new year's goals on a high.

Start the new year off on a high with a huge achievement like dry January. Achieving a goal like this at the very start of the year can give you the momentum to keep pushing on with your other resolutions.

Once you’ve got the success of dry January under your belt, you’ll have no problem ticking off a few more of your new year’s resolutions.

Take Home Message

If you’re stuck for a resolution this new year’s, try out dry January. It'll help you get started with your fitness goals, save you some extra cash, and spur you on to keep checking off those new year’s resolutions.

You’ll also have bragging rights for the rest of the year to show off your huge achievement.
